Crawford County Air Terminal

The Crawford County Air Terminal (CCAT) serves general aviation at the airfield.  It provides parking, tiedowns, self-service fuel, hangars, and terminal facilities.  Although the Facility is unattended, we think you will find all essential services readily available on a self-service basis.

There are no fees for landing or overnight parking.  Tiedown ropes and chocks are provided.

A walk-behind electric power tug is available to help with moving your airplane if needed.   Also, a battery start cart (12 and 24 volt) is available if required (Note:  battery cart is not yet available.).  We do not have an engine preheater, but 120VAC electrical power for your engine heater is available in the hangars and alongside the tiedown spots (bring a 50 ft extension cord for power at tiedowns).

T-hangars are available for long-term lease or for transient use.  Use the Hangar link in the navigation bar on the left to access further info.

Self-service 100LL avgas is now available 24/7.

On-call maintenance services are available from our official provider, Cornerstone Aircraft Maintenance.  Anything you need, from tire or battery replacement to an annual inspection, is available from Cornerstone.  Contact Eric Jaroch at 989-366-4503.

In the terminal, you will find clean and comfortable facilities and a computer with high-speed internet for weather and flight planning.   Free wireless internet is also available.

If you plan to bring firearms, be sure that you are familiar with the Michigan Firearms laws, and that you fully comply with them at all times while on the airfield and the CCAT.  The state publication "Firearms Laws of Michigan" is available online here.

Access To Terminal

Access to the terminal requires use of a code on the numeric lock on the door.  Here is how to determine the code.  Know either the tower frequency (TWR) or the CTAF, ignore decimal points and trailing zeroes.  Use either of the following formulae:

            Code = 6549 minus CTAF
            Code = 6583 minus TWR

Press press C (Clear) and then press the four numbers in sequence and turn the handle.

Access To Ramp and Hangar Area

To open the gate so you can bring a vehicle to your airplane for loading/unloading, use the same combination as for the terminal.  Please be sure to securely lock the gate and check it.  Do not leave an open gate unattended while you are inside the fence; close and lock it behind you.

Noise Sensitive Area

The hangar building is located in close proximity to adjacent housing, and we ask that you respect the residents of that neighborhood by operating your airplane in the quietest manner possible in the vicinity of the hangars.and fuel station.  Use idle power only and do not make power turns.  Runups should be conducted on the parking ramp, or preferably, on the taxiway.  A noise curfew is in effect between 10:00 p.m.and 7:00 a.m., during which no engine operation is permitted beyond the entrance to the parking ramp (not including the parking ramp).  The electric tug is available to move your airplane.

Electric Tug

If you need help moving your airplane into or out of a hangar, or in or out of the quiet zone during noise curfew hours, you can use our walk-behind battery-powered tug, or caddy.  It is located in unit UT1 of the hangar building, on the southwest corner.  The tug is simple to operate and instructions are attached to it.  PLEASE plug it in after putting it back into its storage location after use.  Exercise special care if your airplane has front wheel and strut fairings.  Although the tug is configured for use with or without wheel pants, there is much variation among airplanes and you must determine whether the tug is compatible with yours.

You can read the tug instructions in advance here.

NOTE:      THE POWER TUG IS PROVIDED FOR YOUR CONVENIENCE.  USE OF THE TUG IS ENTIRELY AT YOUR OWN RISK, AND THE CRAWFORD COUNTY AIRPORT BOARD WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE TO YOUR AIRPLANE OR ANY OTHER AIRPLANE INCURRED DURING USE OF THE TUG, EVEN IF CAUSED BY TUG MALFUNCTION.  YOU ASSUME ALL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY DAMAGE, WHETHER TO YOUR AIRPLANE, ANOTHER AIRCRAFT, ANY FACILITIES, OR THE TUG ITSELF.

Directions for Ground Travel to the CCAT

The CCAT is located on the west side of M-93/I-75 Business Loop north of the city of Grayling.   From I-75 northbound, exit at Exit 254 onto the I-75 Business Loop, proceed  through Grayling on I-75 Business Loop.  The CCAT access road (Blue Sky Drive) is 2.1 miles north of Michigan Avenue (downtown Grayling), 1.9 miles north of M-72 West, and 1.4 miles north of North Down River Road.  From I-75 southbound, exit westbound at Exit 259, continue 1.5 miles southwest to flashing red stoplight, turn left onto I-75 Business Loop, continue south 0.7 miles, turn right onto Blue Sky Drive to the terminal.

Winter Operations

When arriving or departing during winter, be aware that snow removal operations may be active in the GA area, and the equipment operators are not equipped with radio communications.  Snow removal operations in the GA area are conducted independently of those on the airfield.

In winter, pay extra attention to checking airfield NOTAMs prior to departing for KGOV, and update with Flight Service  en route.  Snow removal on the airfield is not performed on weekends or holidays, but NOTAMs are updated.  The airfield may close in the event of a substantial weekend/holiday snowfall.
